Geoenvironmental engineering aspects are central and critical to most problems of environmental control. Design, construction, operation, and maintenance of solutions to geoenvironmental problems require a thorough understanding of geoenvironmental engineering. It is an interdisciplinary field that has become popular among geotechnical, environmental, and water resources engineers. This special collection on emerging trends in geoenvironmental engineering presents the latest developments and novel findings in this interdisciplinary field. This special issue covers a wide range of topics including remediation of the municipal solid waste dumpsite, application of mechanically and biologically treated waste as biotic systems in landfills, effect of heavy metal contamination on the geotechnical characteristics of semiarid soils, implication for monitoring and assessment of future multimedia mercury-contaminated regions, phytoremediation of contaminated soils, influence of vegetation on the performance of evapotranspirative landfill biocovers, degradation of aerobic waste, and remediation of extremely alkaline bauxite residues.
