Aesthetic Design of Electric Transmission Structures

Abstract

  • Prepared by the Task Committee on Aesthetic Design of Electric Transmission Structures of the Special Design Issues Technical Administrative Committee of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE

Aesthetic Design of Electric Transmission Structures provides a greater understanding of aesthetics in the design of transmission line structures, and presents thoughtful integration concepts that can positively alter resulting visual impact. In this age of increasing dependency on electricity to support digital lifestyles and economic development, new transmission lines are continually being required. Public opinion has evolved from welcoming new power lines as a sign of societal progress to now having to accept their presence on the landscape as a necessity. Intended as a starting point to help engineers think about aesthetics, as well as when and how to appropriately incorporate them within projects at the design stage, this book introduces

    Aesthetic framework and artistic elements,

    Architectural concepts,

    Aesthetic principles, and

Case studies exploring twelve projects and their aesthetic design considerations.

Aesthetic Design of Electric Transmission Structures will provide valuable insight to overhead line engineers, structural engineers, and construction managers involved in designing and building electrical transmission structures, as well as engineers and others involved in the electric power transmission industry.
