Abstract

  • This monograph contains 13 technical papers presented at the First International Workshop on Wind Storm and Storm Surge Mitigation Construction: Issues of Storm, Shelter, and Safety, held in Bangladesh in 2005. The papers by U.S. and Bangladeshi scientists and engineers explore the long-term issues of wind storm, storm surge, and public safety in the Bay of Bengal region.

    Topics include: wind storm, hurricane, and tsunami characterization; effect on habitat and infrastructure; disaster reduction strategy (affordable shelters construction); risk and loss estimation; socioeconomic aspects of population dynamics; and public health and safety issues.
