Automated People Mover Standards, Part 1

historical

Abstract

  • Automated People Mover Standards establishes the minimum requirements for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of automated people mover (APM) systems. Collectively, this four-volume standard presents the requirements to ensure the safety and performance of APM systems.

Part 1 has been extensively revised, and 21-05 replaces 21-96. This part provides general information and definitions followed by discussions of the operating environment, safety requirements, system dependability, automatic train control subsystems, and audio and visual communications. This standard will be useful to transportation engineers, safety engineers, and contractors of APM systems, as well as to anyone who owns, operates, builds, maintains, designs, tests, insures, oversees, or certifies APMs or other innovative technology transit systems, such as magnetic levitation, air cushion, and monorail systems.
