Supersizing Port Elizabeth

Abstract

The wharf structures at New Jersey’s Elizabeth Port Authority Marine Terminal date from the 1970s, and the facility was not designed for traditional container ships, let alone today’s immense vessels. Now, a five-phase upgrade is under way to modernize these structures by 2009 in conjunction with plans to make the channels deeper.
