Abstract
In an address before the Mississippi Flood Control Conference at Chicago, Ill., early in June, 1927, United States Forester W. B. Greeley took the position that, while the main reliance for handling large flood discharges must be placed upon engineering structures, forests have a definite part in flood control, together with other forms of land use which check erosion and favorably influence natural storage conditions. This attitude is the rational one, and engineers facing the problem of flood control in the Mississippi will doubtless feel that any agency which will assist in lowering the flood crests and in retaining the flood water within predetermine d bounds should be used if economically feasible.
