Stochastic Model of Motion of Solid Particles
Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 93, Issue 5
Abstract
A stochastic model of the motion of small solid particles suspended in a three-dimensional turbulent flow is presented. The corner region of a straight noncircular channel where secondary currents occur is used as a device for generating the three-dimensional flow. The developed stochastic model is random walk which consists of the random and deterministic components. Such a model can be used for computer simulation of the particle motion in the Monte Carlo method of estimating the concentration of solid particles. Problems concerned with multi-dimensional unsteady transport processes of small suspended particles such as sediment, which cannot be solved analytically in the deterministic system, can be solved by the method presented.
