Abstract
An equation for the estimation of pressure loss occurring at a pipe junction is presented. Experiments were conducted for division of flow on nine trifurcations with 2 in. diam main pipe which continued straight after the junction. One 2 in. diam branch was at 90○ angle to the main flow direction. The take off angle of the other branch varied from 30○ to 60○ and the diameters varied from 1 in. to 2 in. The coefficient of total pressure loss is found to vary with the amount of fluid diverted into branches, the angles of take off of the branches from the main, the type of entry into branches and the ratio of diameters of branches to that of the main.
