Abstract
A method has been developed for calculating the pressure distribution and free-surface profile of a steady, two-dimensional, potential flow past a spillway flip bucket or a toe-curve without gravity. The method has been applied to compute the pressure distributions on two flip buckets of Hartwell Dam with 3-ft radii and lip angles of 20○ and 40○, respectively. The computed pressure distribution for the 40○ bucket agrees extremely well with the measurements from model studies. The theoretical free-surface profile also agrees fairly well with the experimental results. The computed values for the 20○ bucket are all smaller than the measured pressure coefficients. The maximum discrepancy is approximately 10%.
