Mobile homes annually constitute a greater proportion of low-cost housing. The industry is gradually overcoming the early blemished image of mobile homes, and also the more recent concept of mobile homes as temporary housing. However, most regulatory bodies have not included mobile home parks in the general plan of community housing and as a result mobile home residents have been isolated from the community. The report deals with five aspects of mobile homes: (1) history of the industry; (2) standards for mobile homes; (3) their relation to community; (4) standards for mobile home parks; and (5) the role of the civil engineer in planning mobile home communities. In planning mobile home parks, the role of the civil engineer should be that of leadership of an interdisciplinary team
