Research Needs in Marine Surveying
Publication: Journal of the Surveying and Mapping Division
Volume 108, Issue 1
Abstract
Research needs in oceanographic and hydrographic surveying and charting are discussed. It is suggested that the two most crucial elements which effect all measurements in hydrography and oceanography are rates and scales. The importance of understanding the effect of coupling two or more environmental factors is also essential in the study of these two disciplines. It is concluded that improved data collection and analysis systems for oceanographic measurements are necessary for better comprehension and prediction of marine processes.
