Stresses in Restrained Cylinder under Axial Compression

Abstract
When considering the distributions and concentrations of stresses developed in an axially-loaded cylinder with restrained ends, soil engineers frequently do not have full confidence in the results of triaxial compression tests, particularly when predicting stress-strain characteristics of soils. The distribution of stresses, assuming linearly elastic properties, has been studied by many applied mathematicians (1, 3,4,6); some have measured stress distribution in cylinders experimentally (7).
