Trapezoidally Corrugated Plates in Shear
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 102, Issue 5
Abstract
Rather precise elastic analyses have been made of trapezoidally corrugated plates in shear with four different kinds of discrete attachment between the ends of the corrugations and the framing members: (a) Point attachments in the troughs; (b) point attachments in the trough and at the crests; (c) wide attachments to a rigid flange; and (d) point attachments to a rigid flange. On the basis of these analyses, extensive numerical results are presented for the overall shearing stiffness and typical results are presented for the maximum extreme-fiber transverse flexural strains which accompany the shearing of such plates. In the case of type (d) attachments typical numerical data are also presented for the tension in the attachments due to the prying action exerted by the rigid flange as it interferes with the deformation of the ends of the corrugations. The results for stiffness are compared with those obtained by other investigators, on the basis of somewhat less precise theories and with experiments.
