Abstract

A special purpose computer program developed for the design of plane concrete frames as are commonly encountered in underground structures such as subways is described. A number of special features enable it to cope readily with problems associated with such structures. Developed for design on sections of the Toronto subway it was later expanded and modified for use on the San Francisco subway, and now represents a general tool for the mass production of elements of such structures. The program is an analysis and design program which determines the minimum member sizes to satisfy given stress restraints should the initial selection be over-stressed. No attempt is made to optimize, though the program is designed to permit simple data modifications by the user in search for such optimums.
