Fate of Wastewater Bacteria and Viruses in Soil

Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 101, Issue 3

Abstract

The fate of microorganisms in wastewater as they contact the soil is an important consideration in land disposal of waste. How free the percolated ground water, soil, or overland runoff is of human pathogens depends principally on the survival of the organisms in the soil and the degree of retention by the soil.
