Status of State Registration Laws

Publication: Journal of Professional Practice
Volume 87, Issue 1

Abstract

The course of registration laws in the United States is traced in this paper. The need for such laws is emphasized in telling the story of their growth. The degree of responsibility and position of national organizations toward registration laws and registrants is examined against the background of the individual states' own regulatory policies. The problems involved in not having a central national registration organization are presented. A plea is made for making registration the bade of recognition of the professional engineer, and a means of maintaining the high standards of practice that are the personal obligation and duty of the engineer toward his profession.
