The Human Ethic
Publication: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 95, Issue 1
Abstract
Future engineers must develop a full understanding of basic engineering principles which can serve as a foundation for the learning of new methods and concepts in analysis and design. In addition, engineering students must develop a deep sense of social awareness and concern so that they can identify and anticipate social needs that can be satisfied through technology, and then be able to actually solve these problems. These priorities are reflected in the goals of today's education—personal development, intellectual development, and social responsibility—which, because of the nature of the world's present social condition, can be expressed in terms of a code of ethics for engineering students.
