Abstract

The San Francisco Section of ASCE has been participating, since January, 1968, in a unique program in minority employment. Joining with the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California and the Urban League, a committee of engineers has enlisted the participation of engineering offices in on-the-job training of para-professional employees. The degree of success has been high, and has helped to spark similar programs in other areas. The paper describes the purposes, the organizational structure and the results of the program, draws conclusions and makes proposals for action by ASCE. Comments are included by the Project Director for On-The-Job Training of the Urban League.
