Abstract
This paper reviews the environmental aspects of atmospheric fluidized-bed combustion designs for large-scale utility steam generation. The review of these aspects is based primarily upon designs submitted to the Department of Energy by Burns and Roe, Inc. and Stone and Webster Engineering Corp. as part of a conceptual design program. The potential environmental impacts of AFBC, which are addressed, are SOx control, NOx emissions, particulates control, and solid waste production.
