Unstiffened Pipe Riser Clamps
Publication: Journal of the Energy Division
Volume 106, Issue 2
Abstract
Photoelastic and strain gage techniques are employed in the study of a riser clamp used to support piping in power plants. Finite element analysis with isoparametric solid elements is used to verify the experimental results. The investigation shows that due to nonuniform torsion, high normal stresses exist along the entire length of the clamp. In the vicinity of the band, normal as well as shear stresses are high, and as a consequence premature yielding in this region may occur.
