Perimeter Wall for New World Centre, Hong Kong
Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 107, Issue 2
Abstract
The construction of the New World Centre project on reclaimed land on the waterfront in Hong Kong required the use of diaphragm walls and tiebacks. Because of the extremely complex geology of this site, a variety of excavation tools and techniques were needed to construct the diaphragm wall and then to install a grout curtain below the portions of the diaphragm wall which were not carried down to sound granite. Tieback installation was made complicated along the waterfront edge of the site where the downward sloping tiebacks were needled through a maze of existing waterfront piling. A second phase of the work required the installation of additional sections of diaphragm wall as substitutions for conventional sheeting.
