Public Reaction to Construction Project

Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 107, Issue 2

Abstract

The results of a survey are presented indicating that engineers appear to be more informed about construction projects and tend to feel that they suffer less substantial inconvenience from the building process than nonengineers. Both groups, however, appear to be inconvenienced by the same activities. Technical personnel are also less critical than the general public of the actual management of the construction process. Engineers feel that the contractor is basically responsible for the project whereas nonengineers are not quite sure who is responsible during the construction process. Upgrading the communication skills of civil engineers is an approach to increase public acceptance of construction projects.
