Current and Proposed Construction Research Studies

Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 102, Issue 3

Abstract

By literature review and completed questionnaires from universities, construction firms and contractor organizations, the current status of construction research is surveyed. The topics of current and proposed studies are listed with the individuals(s) and institution(s) conducting the research. The results of the study indicated that little research is conducted by individual contracting firms, and if studies are undertaken, they are usually directed toward the solution of specific and immediate problems. Universities, AGC, and a Stanford Workshop examined similar topics as contractors, but they involved long-range research studies that will benefit the entire industry. Since the construction is well below the national average for industry R & D investments, greater involvement in organized research is being advocated to solve immediate as well as long-range problems, or more government control can be expected.
