Airplane Take-off and Landing Paths
Publication: Journal of the Aero-Space Transport Division
Volume 93, Issue 1
Abstract
The problem of tracking airplanes in the approach zone of a major airport was solved using ordinary cameras, descriptive geometry, and vector computations. Mean errors in elevation were about ±15 ft, and in plan about ±100 ft when the airplanes were within about 5,000 ft of the end of the runway. The methods are explained in detail using a room-sized analog to the actual field situation. The vectorial methods are programmed as for routine computations.
