Better Government—Can the Young Engineer Help to Make it Happen?
Publication: Issues in Engineering: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 108, Issue 1
Abstract
With increasing repetition, decisions concerning complex engineering issues are being made along purely political lines. To counteract this trend, the engineer must actively become involved in the election of candidates who understand or are sympathetic to the technological consequences of existing and proposed legislation. Engineers must sacrifice a portion of their career to engage in pre-election campaigning, contribute funds, and even run for office to insure that judgments are based on rational, not strictly political, analysis.
