Abstract
Education and communication can have a significant impact on productivity. One session on the Civil Engineer's Role in Productivity in the Construction Industry was devoted to a discussion of this subject. The broad subject was divided into three general categories: Education and Research; Project Communications; and Public Information. Several specific problem areas were identified and defined. Then, a number of suggestions were made to increase productivity through improvement of the educational and communication processes. It was finally concluded that the civil engineer is an essential part of the information exchange activities; therefore, the civil engineer must accept the challenge of improving individual, personal communication skills.
