Educational Needs for 21st Century Surveyors in Private Practice
Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 103, Issue 3
Abstract
Two hundred years after George Washington's retirement from land surveying, the American public can no longer afford to wait for its surveyors to be trained on the job. Assuming and hoping that the trend towards more government and less private enterprise is not irreversible, rights to the land and man's activity upon the land will continue to be managed by the surveyor in private practice. A survey engineer is the general practitioner of the modern engineering team. His specialized education must be our concern in the best public interest.
