The Changing Practice of Engineering

Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 103, Issue 3

Abstract

In addition to the many technological changes in engineering, there are sociological changes that influence the way engineering is practiced today. The profession must recognize those social mutations as well as the technical ones and adapt to them. Some of these changes involve new dimensions in employment practices, public involvement in engineering decisions, and detailed environmental considerations. The profession, however, is facing the challenge and dealing with the social changes in a positive way.
