Licensure of Planners and Its Effect on Civil Engineers

Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 97, Issue 1

Abstract

In the mind of the writer it is mandatory that each state, through the local sections and councils, takes a position on the licensing of planners to safeguard the interests of civil engineers who have done planning work. It is believed that the issuance of licenses for planning will create more and more interest in the near future. The ASCE should take a firm position at this time. State registration boards should be asked to review their laws towards the goal of awarding engineering planning licenses under existing statutes; if a change in the law is required, study should be given to such a change. Engineering schools should investigate the advisability of granting degrees in engineer planning.
