Abstract
In order to minimize errors in field measurements of permeability by means of packer tests, it is necessary to allow for head losses in all sections of the system and not solely in the drop pipe. It has long been recognized that large diameter drop pipe should be used to reduce head losses and this same philosophy should be applied in the design of the packer and perforated pipe sections. If packers that contain small diameter pipe are used, then measurements of head losses through the packer section should be made.
