Call for Papers: Special Bilingual Issue on Engineering in the Americas

Publication: Journal of Construction Engineering and Management
Volume 136, Issue 11

Introduction

Civil and construction engineers throughout the Americas are dealing with similar challenges in design, construction, operations, and maintenance of capital facilities. Similarly, construction researchers in North and South America are addressing these challenges with a variety of unique approaches. It is incumbent upon these researchers to disseminate their work globally, but language barriers can inhibit publication opportunities and minimize the dissemination of research.
ASCE is a global organization with 15 international sections, 16 international groups, and thousands of international members. ASCE publications are currently distributed around the world in the English language. However, significant opportunities exist to solicit and disseminate technical knowledge if ASCE accepts and publishes papers in other languages. Under the sponsorship of the ASCE International Activities Committee, the society is seeking to publish its first bilingual issue of a technical journal.
The Journal of Construction Engineering and Management is partnering with the Revista Ingeniería de Construcción, published by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, to create ASCE’s first journal issue in both Spanish and English. Papers will be submitted and reviewed in the author’s native language. Accepted papers will be translated into the second language. To ensure quality, the translated paper will also be reviewed. Once a paper is approved by this dual review process, it will be published in both English and Spanish.

Scope and Topics of Interest

Manuscripts are solicited from all areas within the scope of the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and the Revista Ingeniería de Construcción. Additionally, manuscripts are solicited to address specific issues affecting the Americas, including, but not limited to, the following:
Productivity;
Equipment;
Materials;
Sustainability;
Cultural issues;
Standards and design codes; and
Accreditation of engineering programs.

Special Instructions for Spanish-Language Submissions

Using Unicode values in Editorial Manager: If you need to enter a character that is not available on the “Special Characters” palette as you type information into the metadata fields when submitting or revising a manuscript in Editorial Manager, you may do so by typing in the character’s Unicode value. This is a universal code that represents a character across all text environments. For example, if you needed the symbol for a “Euro,” you would type & #x20AC; into the text field. All Unicode values should be typed in their complete eight-character form, as seen above. For the complete listing of all available Unicode values, see http://www.unicode.org/charts/.
