Column‐Load Effect on Reinforced Concrete Corbels

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 116, Issue 1

Abstract

The paper reports tests carried out on 18 150×150×200mm concrete corbels reinforced with main bars and steel fibers. The fibers are used as a secondary (shear) reinforcement. The volumes of main and fibrous reinforcements and the shear span‐to‐depth ratio are varied. A concentric load is applied on the column segment of eight specimens. Also, unequal loads are applied on the corbel segments of four of the double corbel specimens. Test results appear to indicate that neither column load nor unequal corbel loads have any significant effect on the strengths of different corbels. Also, the addition of steel fibers improves both strength and ductility of the corbels.
