Timber Columns in Combined Bending and Tension: Design
Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 110, Issue 7
Abstract
A graphical approach is presented for the design of timber columns subjected to combined bending and tension. The proposed set of charts are used to determine the allowable bending stress and stresses in combined bending and axial tension. The method and the equations are based on the National Design Specification for Wood Construction, and Timber Construction Manual. An illustrative example is presented to show the step-by-step design approach.
