Hydrologic Approach to Prediction of Sediment Yield

Publication: Journal of Hydraulic Engineering
Volume 115, Issue 4

Abstract

A hysteresis loop between the suspended-sediment discharge and the water discharge makes the prediction problem of sediment yield more difficult. An exponential relation (water - sediment curve) Qs = Qbo is used to compute the suspended-sediment discharge Qs generated by the estimated overland runoff component Qo. a and b are constant parameters to be established from observed data of suspended-sediment discharge and the computed overland flow. The established result is found to be in good agreement with observed data.
