Reserved Bus Lanes in Dallas, Texas
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 101, Issue 4
Abstract
In March, 1974, the City of Dallas implemented a reserved bus lane strategy on two major thoroughfares. This information was collected in order to evaluate the impact of this strategy on public transportation, vehicular traffic, and other parameters. This paper: (1) Examines the evaluation methodology; and (2) the results and conclusions of the study. The statistical evaluation is accomplished by collecting before and after data and using the Student's t-test to determine whether or not there is a significant difference. It was found that the bus lane strategy was beneficial in that it has no negative impacts on any parameter and it does have positive effects on some parameters.
