Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive review of the layered theory of pavement design. The mathematical detail associated with layered theory and particularly the procedures used to complete the numerical integrations are described. The contributions of the many workers in this field are organized so as to provide a ready reference on this subject as it is extended to include more descriptive material constitutive equations. The paper also contains a section which presents the ability of layered theory to provide a fundamental approach to pavement design.
