The Port Development Problem of the Lowers Mississippi River

Abstract
As all engineers are somewhat familiar with the method of making fills with hydraulic dredges, the processes by which the alluvial valley of the Mississippi was formed are generally understood. In carrying out the comparison, the upper river and its tributaries may be considered as the dredges or scouring agents supply ing the power, the wa ter, and the solid materials. The discharge points are those places where the river and its tributaries cease
