Abstract
A large number of investigations have been conducted to predict the lower and upper nappes, the most notable among them being those of Bazin and the United States Bureau of Reclamation, (USBR); an extensive review of these investigations has been given by Chow. The lower nappe has assumed great importance because it forms the spillway profile and prediction of the upper nappe is necessary for designing spillway side walls and for some calculations of the flow over the spillway face.
