Laboratory Study of Oil Thickness on Water Waves

Abstract
Using a system which follows the water surface, the local thickness of an oil layer on water waves has been measured in a laboratory wave channel for a range of wave lengths and oil layer thicknesses. A comparison with linear wave theory is not satisfactory with the experimental results producing much larger thickness variation than predicted.
