Fixed and Floating Axisymmetric Structures in Waves

Abstract

The numerical calculation of wave exciting forces, added-mass and damping coefficients and body motions for a floating vertical axisymmetric body, as well as the wave forces and runup for a fixed axisymmetric body are described. An integral equation method for fixed bodies is amended and extended to the case of a floating body. The method utilizes the body's axisymmetry to reduce considerably the computational effort required from that for bodies of arbitrary shape. Comparisons are made with available solutions relating to various specific configurations. As an example of the method's application, new results are also presented for surface-piercing conical structures.
