Parking and Zoning
Publication: Journal of the Urban Planning and Development Division
Volume 101, Issue 1
Abstract
Among the many transportation-related measures used for improving urban environmental quality are the controls over offstreet parking contained in the typical zoning ordinance. These controls customarily regulate both parking supply and the design of off-street parking facilities. Thus, not only may they serve to soften the physical impacts of parking facilities on their surroundings, but also, in conjunction with other measures affecting highway traffic characteristics and mode choice, they may serve to modify travel patterns and to aid in alleviating the impacts of urban travel on the community.
