Abstract

Ground water with 750 mg per 1 total hardness and 1,300 mg per 1 total dissolved solids is being successfully softened and filtered at Lompoc, California's new municipal water treatment plant using the cold lime-soda process followed by recarbonation. An automatic diatomaceous earth filtration system using vacuum type diatomite filters is used instead of rapid sand filters.
