Abstract
Water resource development is the provision of an ample supply for all purpose of high quality water at a reasonable price. The explosion in water use and population is demanding the continued investment of large sums of money in various projects. Water resource engineers collect basic data, and they plan, construct, and operate the projects. Engineers of all disciplines participate in design and construction. More engineers of all categories will be needed in the immediate future. There is need, too, for an expanded and continuing research program. New principles in support of engineering criteria adopted by ASCE call for a combined pre-engineering and professional engineering program of five years duration leading to the first degree in civil engineering. Engineers graduated from courses meeting this criterion, as well as four year men, and university research studies, will meet the needs of the water resources development programs.
