Continuing Education—A Professional Imperative

Continued competence can be achieved by the professional man only through an aggressive pursuit of continuous learning. The individual practitioner is encouraged to pursue such a program if positive actions are taken by the professional group with which he is associated. The American Society of Civil Engineers is furnishing material for study through its technical publications and inspiration for study through the attitudes of its members. Further help to the individual would result if the society sponsored a study of the educational needs that cross the borders of the traditional engineering branches; repeatedly published notices of courses being offered created graded bibliographies in the various technical divisions; and, made local surveys of educational needs.
