Abstract
The Homestake Delivery Pipeline is 50 miles long and 66-in. in diameter. It traverses rugged terrain, and much of the line is under relatively high head. The contractor chose to use prestressed concrete pipe for most of the line, with mortar-lined steel for the remainder. The trench was excavated to the shape of the pipe and a 2-in. soil-cement bedding was used in some areas. The structural design of the pre-stressed concrete pipe is evaluated, as well as the hydraulics of the pipeline and pumping plant with particular reference to transient pressures.
