Abstract
The effect of an entrance channel on the response of narrow-mouthed harbors to long periodic incident water waves is examined by means of an approximate approach developed previously by the writers. A channel effect analogous to harbor paradox of Miles and Munk is found and explained in terms of a Helmholtz resonator. Calculations are given for specific harbor geometries and indicate a lowering and crowding together of harbor resonance frequencies and an increase in amplification as the entrance channel length increases.
