Experimental Buckling of Thin Shells of Revolution
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 90, Issue 3
Abstract
Experimental results of the buckling of closed deep shells of revolution subjected to static and impulsive external pressures are presented. Shells of similar geometry with decreasing radii of curvature near the apex, varying thicknesses, and different tempers are tested. Results are shown describing the effects of geometric and material parameters of the buckling mode shape and critical pressures. Assumptions are made in regard to the buckling mode shape and number of buckles obtained under impulsive loads.
