Civil Engineering Education for Architecture Students: The Curriculum and the Teaching Techniques

Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 103, Issue 4

Abstract

The backgrounds and interests of architecture students are not the same as those of civil engineering students. These facts have to be recognized in the civil engineering curriculum, and different teaching techniques adopted for the architecture students. Some views, based on the writer's experience with architecture students, are expressed here. The course contents and the teaching techniques adopted for a basic mechanics course, a proposed engineering materials course and a modified civil engineering design course are presented. In conclusion, it is hoped that, in the future, more attention will be paid providing a sound civil engineering education for architecture students.
