Abstract
In addition to a thorough knowledge of the traditional subjects and new facets of civil engineering such as finite element analysis, environment, construction management, and others, the practicing civil engineer needs well-developed skills to communicate his ideas to associates, clients, and the public. He must have a good working knowledge of business, finance, and law because survival in today's engineering marketplace is no longer a matter of just common sense. In this period of ever increasing inflation, powered by rapidly increasing salaries, he must be a skilled negotiator and devote appreciable time to the administrative aspects of business operations.
