Abstract
In this test, a small hole is made in the specimen to be tested, and distilled water is allowed to flow through the hole. Dispersibility is assessed by observing effluent color and changes of flow rate through the hole, and by visual inspection of the hole after completion of the test. Initial attempt to use the test for assessment of dispersibility of soils from the Port Hills, Chirstchurch, New Zealand, gave some apparently anomalous results. The anomalies have been resolved by modification of the test procedure in the manner explained herein.
